In partnership with Journey Clinical
Medicine, relationship, and integration.
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a holistic modality in which ketamine is used as a complement to psychotherapy. For eligible clients, it may support therapeutic breakthroughs and sustained improvement in symptoms.
I provide the psychotherapy portion of your care. Journey Clinical’s medical team manages all medical aspects, including eligibility, individualized treatment planning, prescribing, and outcome monitoring.
Learn more through Journey ClinicalWhat is ketamine?
A medicine used within a therapeutic process.
Ketamine is a prescription medication used in medical and mental-health settings. It may be considered for conditions including depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Its effects can begin relatively quickly, and research suggests that it may support neuroplasticity—the brain’s capacity to form and strengthen new connections.
Ketamine may be administered in several forms. In my work with Journey Clinical, the medical team prescribes only sublingual lozenges. Eligibility, potential benefits, risks, interactions, and alternatives are reviewed with you by a Journey Clinical medical clinician.
How might it feel?
An inward experience, held with care.
The noticeable effects often last approximately 45 minutes. You may experience changes in body awareness, perception, emotion, or your sense of distance from everyday concerns. Because verbal and motor abilities may be reduced, you will remain comfortably reclined during the experience.
As the effects subside, there is space to gently begin processing what arose. Integration continues in subsequent therapy sessions rather than requiring you to make sense of everything at once.
The KAP process
Collaborative care, from preparation through integration.
Medical consultation
Meet virtually with a Journey Clinical medical clinician. They will review your medical and psychiatric history, explain treatment, determine eligibility, and—when appropriate—create your treatment plan, prescribe sublingual ketamine, and teach you how to take your vitals and self-administer the medication.
Preparation
Before dosing, we meet to review the process, address questions or concerns, establish supports, and clarify your intentions for our work together.
KAP dosing session
A typical dosing session lasts approximately one to two hours and may take place in my office or remotely via telehealth when clinically appropriate. You will recline comfortably, usually with an eye mask and calming music, while I remain present to hold space and offer support.
Integration
We meet afterward to explore the memories, emotions, thoughts, images, bodily experiences, or insights that arose—and consider how they may support meaningful change in daily life.
Medical follow-up
Journey Clinical’s medical team monitors outcomes and prescribes refills when appropriate. Follow-up frequency is based on your treatment plan, with consultations occurring at least quarterly.
Is KAP right for everyone?
Thoughtful screening matters.
No. Medical eligibility is determined by Journey Clinical, and psychological readiness matters too. KAP is not a quick fix or a replacement for ongoing therapeutic work. A consultation with me can help us explore whether this approach may fit your needs, goals, support system, and timing.
